NAMINGS FOR YOUNG AND OLD

A Naming not only celebrates the welcoming of a child for a family without religious affiliations, but for those of us who wish to reclaim a name after divorce, or who wish to celebrate a legal name change, and wish to mark the occasion.  A child learns the sense of self through association and kinship of his/her name.  This name bestowed upon them at birth by loving parents is unique and belongs only to him/her.  A traditional name handed down through the generations is also special and often coupled with another significant or modern name linking new generations.

Your name is the most important thing about you, it is the first thing a person asks of you,  "What is your name"? Throughout life you speak and write your name more times than you count.  Sometimes we are not comfortable with the name given to us at birth and wish to legally change it.  Celebrating your new name is a wonderful way to begin again and renew who you are.

Did you know that although a woman may adopt her husbands name on marriage in Australia, unless she legally obtains a  "Certificate of Name Change", the surname on her birth certificate is her true name unless altered legally on application.   Many institutions, including transport authorities, the passport office and banks will generally accept a Registry-issued marriage certificate in order to change the bride's surname.   You should clarify this with each of the institutions in advance as you may need to apply to your state Registry office for a Registry-issued marriage certificate.   Generally the presentation certificate you receive from your Celebrant on the day you marry is not enough.  :
